Enforce E-Voting Opt-In - Ballot Setting

What is Voting Preferences?

Voting Preferences is a community-level feature that gives residents control over how they participate in electronic voting. When enabled, it unlocks the following capabilities:

When Voting Preferences is enabled:

  • Voters & Admins can set their e-voting preference to opt-in or opt-out from their portal
  • Admins can see each voter opt-in/opt-out status in the voter information section
  • Admins can require opt-in for a specific ballot using the "Enforce E-Voting Opt-In" ballot setting
  • Voters who are opted-out can be excluded from ballot invites and voting access
  • The "Enforce E-Voting Opt-In" checkbox is visible and editable in ballot settings

When Voting Preferences is disabled:

  • Voters do not have the ability to opt-in or opt-out of electronic voting
  • The opt-in/opt-out preference field is hidden from the resident portal
  • Admins cannot require opt-in for any ballot — all eligible voters are treated equally regardless of prior opt-in status
  • Admins can still mark a voter as ineligible as hard block to prevent someone from voting.
  • The "Enforce E-Voting Opt-In" checkbox remains visible in ballot settings for audit purposes but cannot be modified

Enforce E-Voting Opt-In — Ballot Setting

What it does: When enabled on a ballot, this setting restricts voting access to voters who have opted into electronic voting. Voters with an opt-out preference will not receive voting invites and will not be able to cast votes electronically. Admins can still manually enter votes on their behalf.

Why this option may be grayed out: This setting requires Voting Preferences to be enabled for your community. When Voting Preferences is turned off, this checkbox is visible but cannot be modified. Any previously saved setting on this ballot will continue to be honored — it is preserved for your records and will become editable again if Voting Preferences is re-enabled.

To enable this setting: A community administrator can turn on Voting Preferences by reaching out to support@ballotbliss.com.
